Borrowing Toys

Toy Library Borrowing Toys

Borrowing from the Toy Library is as easy as borrowing from the regular library; all you need is your Toy Library Membership card and you're good to go.

We have a dedicated self-serve kiosk located within the Toy Library, ready for you to check-out your toys, and you can also use the regular library self-serve kiosks, or bring your toys to the front desk if you would like assistance.

There are also helpful trolleys available in the Toy Library to help with carrying larger and/or multiple items.

Missing Pieces

All toys and resources are checked for missing parts and damage prior to being placed in the Toy Library, and each toy is accompanied by an itemised list of parts and pieces. We have a 24 hour policy which gives members 24 hours to report any issues with the toys they have borrowed. After taking the toys home, we ask that members take a moment to check that the toys are complete, and to contact us right away if there are any issues. This way we will know that the issue existed prior to borrowing, and we will address it when the toy is returned.

If a piece goes missing, we allow plenty of time for the piece to turn up! Please do not return toys with missing pieces, simply renew the item. This enables you extra time to look for the piece at home. Due to storage constraints, if you return toys with lost pieces we will contact you so that you can pick up the toy and continue searching for the missing pieces at home.

If a piece is lost permanently, we ask for a replacement piece or in rare circumstances for the entire toy to be replaced e.g. if a puzzle piece is lost we cant utilise the toy so would ask for a replacement puzzle. If a replacement piece is unable to be found please consult with our Toy Library staff who can assist you.  If a piece can not be replaced or remade a small fee may be charged.

If a toy is damaged during borrowing, please return all pieces and advise staff as we may be able to repair it! Please do not attempt repairs at home.

To minimise missing/damaged pieces, we encourage parents and care givers to keep our toys in a separate place at home to encourage respect and care for them. We also suggest that parents play with their children and keep the toys for special times instead of continuous unsupervised play. Our toys are designed to help children develop skills, not necessarily to occupy them full-time for the period the toys are borrowed.

Returning Resources

Burnside Toy Library toys must be returned to the City of Burnside Library via the Toy Library returns chute during opening hours. Toys can not be returned to other libraries.

The Toy Library returns chute is located in the foyer of the Burnside Library.  If you have larger items that won't fit in the chute, please leave them with Rory the dinosaur inside the library and/or ask a staff member for help.

Renewing Toys

Toys can be renewed up to 2 times. To renew your items, you can call the library on 8366 4280 during opening hours, or visit the library catalogue by logging in online with your Toy Library card number and PIN.
